For most it is a bothersome plant in the yard, for others it is a precious medicinal herb and for us tortoise keepers it is of invaluable worth.
It is very healthy fooder plant which is available almost all year round. Even during the cold season you can find many small plants for feeding.
It contains histamines which provokes allergic reactions in humans, but obviously has no effect on the tortosises.
Some of the younger tortoises, however, seem sensitive though when having eaten the plants.
For them you should pour boiled water over the leaves.
Marion Minch gave us a hint to soak the torts in lukewarm nettle-tea, which they love to drink.

What my granny knew::
Stinging nettle activates the digestive saps, thus stimulate the bowel movements. Therefore it is helpful when subfunctions of the stomach, the gut and the pancreas, as well as obstipation, occurs.
