Chicory is one of the most popular plants eaten by my torts. Already when the first leaves appear, they are eaten with great appetite.
The rosette is similar to that of a dandelion. The Chicory is the "mother" of most of our cultivated lettuces such as endive. The leaves taste bitter, which is caused by the Intybin content. This again helps digestion.
Humans may also eat chicory by themselves including the flowers. They taste wonderful:-)
